Piktochart, a rapidly growing startup based in Penang offers its users an easy-to-use infographic maker that’s all about creating visual stories and making information beautiful. They help users turn their data into engaging infographics, empowering even the most design-challenged person to create beautiful and effective designs without having to learn to use Photoshop or Illustrator.
We recently featured Piktochart in this article about companies who go the extra mile to help employees with families and children. Further confirming its status as a dream employer, Piktochart was awarded a spot on the WorldBlu List of Freedom-Centered Workplaces in May 2016.
Despite their obvious appeal, Piktochart was not having the best of luck finding the right people. Ai Ching Goh, co-founder and CEO of the startup, told us a little bit about how Jobbatical helped them find not one, but two globetrotting adventurers—a community evangelist and a product manager—to join them on their mission.
Ai Ching says that finding the right people for these roles proved to be relatively difficult: People who are both a technical and a cultural fit are already rare enough. Add to that a desire to relocate to Penang, and you’ve got yourself a bit of a unicorn. Since the Jobbatical community is full of people who have skills as well as a measure of wanderlust, it turned out to be the perfect place for Piktochart to post their job openings.
Jacqueline applied for a position at Piktochart after learning more about the company and falling in love with what they were building. She joined the team in Malaysia for a month and continued to work remotely as a community evangelist. (In this blog post, you can read all about her journey.)
Katja was already freelancing in Penang when she found Piktochart’s job opening on Jobbatical. Her online product management and media design experience made her the perfect fit for the role of Prime Minister of Growth. (Check out this article to learn more about her experience.)
Both Katja and Jacqueline have a lot to bring to the table. Their experience, energy and enthusiasm help the company to continue growing each day, and they’re not afraid to express their thoughts—and it’s exactly that kind of free movement of ideas that builds great global companies.
“They both definitely create a lot of opportunities for diversity.”－Ai Ching
We’ll be following the story of Piktochart as they keep building a great team and helping ideas spread across the world. Stay tuned!
